Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Anantnag & Kulgam. Contraband substance, illicit liquor and cash recovered from their possession.
A statement issued on Saturday said “In Anantnag, officers at a checkpoint established at Khanbal intercepted a person identified as Nisar Ahmad Mandoo resident of Batpora Khanbal and recovered 11 grams of Heroin from his possession following which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody”. “A case FIR No. 68/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Anantnag and further investigation is in progress “, the police statement reads further.
Stating that yet in another similar action Police party from P S Srigufwara at a checkpoint established at Sakras crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03E-6516 with two persons on board identified as Shamus ul Din Ganie and Gulzar Ahmad Hajam both residents of Kanelwon Bijbehara and recovered 22 kgs of Poppy Straw from the said vehicle, Police in the above referred statement further said “ the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody”.
In it’s statement police also said a Case FIR Number 23/2021 under relevant sections of the law stands registered in Police Station Srigufwara in this regard and investigation have been initiated.
Stating that in third similar incident in Kulgam, officers at a checkpoint established at Laroo Crossing intercepted two individuals riding a scooty bearing registration number JK18A-9836 and identified them as Rameez Ahmad Ganie@Shano resident of Ganie Mohallah Kulgam & Yasir Ahmad Shah resident of Laroo, the police in the said statement “during checking officers were recovered 700 grams of Charas, 5 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 2 bottles of illicit liquor and cash amount of ₹3900 were recovered from the possession of the accused following which they were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody”. The statement also said that a case vide FIR No. 49/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation has been initiated and vehicles used in the commission of crimes were also seized.
In the concluding para of the statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that pepple found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that actions against drug peddlers are consistently taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
