Srinagar: Police in a series of action against drug dealings have arrested six drug peddlers in Anantnag & Pulwama and Kupwara districts and recovered from their possession contraband substance.
A police statement issued on Thursday said “In Anantnag, Officers at a checkpoint established at Akura bridge Mattan intercepted three persons identified as Nisar Ahmad Bhat resident of Peth Nambal, Jehangir Yousuf wani resident of Rampora and Nisar Ahmad Bhat resident of Mattan and recovered 400gms of cannabis powder and 4.3kgs of bung from their possession”.
Stating that all the accused were arrested after proper investigation and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police in it’s statement also said a case FIR No. 19/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Mattan and investigation has been initiated.
Police in the above referred statement further said that in yet another similar incident police in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district established two checking points at Naina Litter and Batpora Litter in the jurisdiction of Police Station Litter and intercepted two suspicious persons identified as Shabir Ahmad Bhat resident of Nowgam Verinag Anantnag and Ghulam Nabi Matoo resident of Naina Litter. Stating the during checking, police recovered 300 grams of Charas and 70 grams Brown sugar (Heroine) from the possession of accused , police said that the accused were formally arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody following which cases vide FIR numbers 11/2021 & 12/2021 under relevant sections of law were registered in Police Station Litter and further investigation has been initiated.
Police in it’s statement further said that in Kupwara district also officers at a checkpoint established at Rationpora Kralpora intercepted a suspicious person who tried to escape from spot and tactfully nabbed the accused who has been identified as liyaqat Khathana resident of Kundayan Keran. Stating that during searches, officers recovered 500 grams of Brown Sugar from the possen of the accused after which he was n arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police in the above referred statement said that case FIR No. 14/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Kralpora and further investigation is in progress.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
