DDC B’gam convenes meeting on operationalisation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan

Budgam: -The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza Saturday convened a meeting at New Conference Hall, here to discuss modalities and operationalisation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) in the district.
At the outset, the DDC said that the activities related to JSA shall continue till November this year and all the activities undertaken by concerned departments shall be reviewed in September 2021.
The DDC instructed that each concerned department shall formulate an effective and inclusive plan and the same should be submitted within 10 days.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that various steps and proactive measures need to be taken to achieve the aim and objective of Abhiyan. He said the focus shall remain on the water conservation and its judicious use.
During the meeting, the DDC said that activities like digging of bore well, recharge of bore well, installation of Sprinklers and hand pumps, roof top rain water harvesting, soil conservation, mapping of water resources in district both natural and artificial are some of the best practices which should be carried out by concerned departments.
The meeting was apprised by Ex. Engineer of PHE Budgam/Chadoora that future course of action and activities proposed to be carried out by each concerned departments are comprehensively laid out and shall be communicated to all departments.
He said there shall be Jal Shakti Kendra which shall monitor the performance of activities carried under JSA in the district.
The DDC emphasized that a massive awareness campaign regarding JSA and allied activities shall be held across the district for which the District Youth Services and Sports Department along with PRI workers, Activists, Students, and NGOs shall be invited to participate with full enthusiasm.
He said the IEC activities shall include holding of rallies, wall paintings, Nukkad Nataks, knowledge competition, oath taking, talk by subject experts etc. Besides, DDC also directed to conduct regular Gram Sabha in context of JSA.
The DDC said that funds under MGNREGA scheme shall be utilized under convergence mode to strengthen the idea of JSA in the district. He said post launch of JSA, the aim and effort should be to mobilize the community, NYKs, KVKs, NGOs, PRI workers etc to make JSA a success in the district.
It was also revealed in the meeting that Jal Mitra shall be identified for each water body in the district. These Jal Mitra shall ensure the water body is rejuvenated within their Jurisdiction. In this regard, DDC assigned the task of identification of Jal mitra across district to District Panchayat Officer, Budgam.
Among others, the meeting was attended by S.E Hydraulics, CPO, ACD, ACR, CAO, CHO, DPO, Ex. Engineers of PHE, REW, Irrigation and other concerned officers and officials.
