Shopian: Two militants were on Saturday killed and a soldier was injured in a gunfight between the militants and the government forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said.
A senior police officer said that two unidentified militants were killed, stating that their identity is being ascertained. He said the operation is on in the area.
Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. A police officer said that the operation may last till tomorrow morning given the dark. “We have installed lights and tightened cordon layers to ensure the remaining militants don’t flee,” he said, adding that hiding militants are repeatedly being asked to surrender
