Nagrota (Jammu): Bakshi Nagar Super Friday defeated Nagrota Super by 45 runs in the final of Easter Cricket Cup Tournament played at Helipad Cricket Ground in Dhok Waziran in Nagrota.
Rishu of the Nagrota Super and Bhanu of the Bakshi Nagar Super were respectively declared as Man of the Series and Man of the Match.The event was organized by the Church Youth of the area. In all 24 teams participated in the tournament, which drew cricket lovers from peripheral areas in large numbers to witness the matches.
Giving away the winners and runners up trophies at the concluding function, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana said winning and losing is part of the game and what matters remains the sportsmen spirit, which forges unique camaraderie among the youth that is important for harmonious growth of the society. He wished success to the participating teams, saying though just one team makes it to the top yet this should not be the end of the game. “In sports there is always another time”, he said and hoped that by emulating this spirit the players will do their best and play with commitment.
Rana said both the teams displayed their best in all departments of the game which testifies the fact that there is no dearth of talent. However, there is a need to identify the best ones, polish their skills by expert coaches and groom them at various events at the national level. He also underscored the need for creation of infrastructural facilities, especially in rural areas to enable talented youth compete with their urban counterparts and get exposure on a larger canvas.Rana appreciated the enthusiasm among the budding cricketers and said that prolonged competitions would place them in good stead to face the competitive world with vigour and confidence. He also complimented the huge number of cricket lovers who applauded the performance of players, saying such encouragement is necessary for lifting the morale of the sports persons.
Rana complimented organisers for sponsoring the event and hoped that teams participating in the tournament will put in their best in the gentleman’s spirit of the game and inspire youngsters in cricketing activity. He described sports imperative for growth and development of children, saying this activity instills a spirit of camaraderie among them. He hoped that holding such events will help in identifying talent.
