New era of change ushering in BGSBU to become a Centre of Excellence: VC

Rajouri: The Vice-Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University(BGSBU) Prof. Akbar Masood has initiated series of academic and administrative reforms since taking over the charge.
Prof. Akbar has introduced more than 50 initiatives that are critical for the growth of this highest seat of learning. On the occasion, Prof. Akbar said that he will work with his team at BGSBU to scale up the visibility of University and to enhance the employability of students as enshrined under the New Education Policy (NEP).He said that he is committed to making BGSBU a student-friendly university that will uplift the standards of teaching and research.He said improving BGSBU’s ranking is his top priority along with making the varsity one of the leading universities at the global level.
Prof. Akbar said that after joining he ordered the re-starting of offline classes and reopened the hostel facilities as per government orders under strict compliance of Covid-19 protocols.Prof. Akbar said that various other academic and research-related initiatives like refund of admission fee, refund of security deposit; offline classes of research scholars; refund of mess charges during lockdown period; NOC to students within a day, Technology-driven Student’s feedback process; streamlining the executive of research projects and examination reforms got implemented to ensure the flourishing of academics and research.
On administrative front, Prof Akbar said that many reforms have been implemented to bring efficiency in day to day affairs of the university.Prof Akbar said the University has started the screening process for the placement of teachers in the next grades.He said that all files shall be disposed of expeditiously and shall not remain at any desk beyond two working days.Prof. Akbar said that to streamline the working of various departments, coordinators have been appointed for Department of Civil Engineering, Centre for Biodiversity Studies, Islamic Studies, Urdu and Biotechnology.Prof. Akbar said that to ensure the timely disposal of various affairs of the University financial and administrative powers have been delegated to Registrar and Controller Examinations.
Prof. Akbar said that steps have been taken for the maintenance of residential quarters and a budgetary provision has been made to ensure the regular maintenance of residential quarters on campus.Prof. Akbar said that necessary initiatives have been taken to revamp sports facilities in hostels in particular and campus in general including augmentation of sports infrastructure for students, faculty and staff, and their families.Prof Akbar said that the University is going to establish a children’s park for the wards of faculty and staff.To promote health and hygiene of Women Student’s, Prof. Akbar said that he has ordered to make operational the Vending machines and Incinerator in the women hostels.He said that the University will install washing machines in all hostels of the University.

Prof. Akbar said that during the first month of his tenure, the University has submitted a proposal for development grants Rs 68 Crore to the government and he is quite hopeful that Jammu & Kashmir Government. will provide the required funds to carry out various development activities with the campus. Prof. Akbar said that the University has initiated steps to prepare a 15 – year Perspective Plan for BGSBU to make it a nationally acclaimed University.Prof. Akbar said that to position BGSBU as a global talent hub, we should become capable of being nimble, anticipatory, imaginative and reactive.
