Srinagar:Employees Joint Action committee (EJAC), an amalgam of various employees unions, staged a midnight protest at Wildlife Warden’s office, during preceding night against the alleged ‘arbitrary’ deduction of 5-day wages of daily-wagers and casual workers of the department.
The daily-wagers and causal workers of the Central Division, Dachigam, under the banner of EJAC, headed by its president, Shabnam Fayaz assembled at the office of the Wildlife Warden, Dachigam, to protest arbitrary deduction of their five day wages on monthly basis.
The protesters had carried placards in their hands which read “release wages or kill us, stop injustice with daily-wagers and casual workers, revoke verbal order”
They alleged that government on one hand is mulling to bring daily-wagers and casual workers of the wildlife department under the ambit of Minimum Wages Act (MWA); while on the other hand, their five days salary is being deducted every month on unknown reasons.
EJAC president, Shabnam Fayaz while talking to media, said the government’s apathetic approach towards of the wildlife workers, forced them to hold midnight protest to press for the revocation of the verbal order.
“There is no formal order issued by the government announcing deduction of five days wages of these poor workers. We demand the verbal order having serious impact on daily-wagers and casual workers of wildlife department to be revoked at an earliest,” EJAC president said.
Shabnam said the employees working as daily-wagers and casuals in the wildlife department have been facing severe problems while as the government is adding to their miseries day in and day out
