Awareness rally on eve of World Water Week flagged-off at B’pora

Bandipora: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bandipora, Zahoor Ahmad Mir on Tuesday flagged off an awareness rally as part of the Water Week Celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC said that the District Administration Bandipora will celebrate the week with greater participation and enthusiasm in Bandipora in order to sensitize the public and the officers alike regarding the importance of water conservation.
The ADC flagged of an IEC Van to raise awareness among people about the importance of water conservation and about various government schemes that are in place to ensure pure drinking water to the households.
He informed that the van shall run through different routes and tracks across the district for which the necessary schedule has been formulated jointly by Rural Development and Jal Shakti departments.
Mir urged upon the people to actively participate in such campaigns and play a constructive role in water conservation and preservation. He said that several initiatives are being taken to provide potable drinking water to every household and made a reference of centrally sponsored Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide the potable drinking water to every rural household.
Earlier, on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Joint Director Planning finalized the action plan for the celebration of World Water Week and the subsequent World Water Day on March 22 that will conclude the week long celebrations.
The meeting was attended by officers of PHE, Education, Rural Development and other allied departments. It was given out in the meeting that that all macro and micro level arrangements have been kept in place and day wise action plan stands prepared for greater coverage of public and student community .
The joint director while articulating events ahead hinted towards conducting of Cluster level mega Awareness programmes with PRIs and Rural population on Wednesday during the Block Diwas.
He said there will be an awareness rally of school children, theme based-painting competitions, Awareness functions at higher secondary schools, holding of village water committee meetings etc till 21st of March. He said an NGO has also been involved to achieve wide spread and higher targets envisaged for the purpose.
Meanwhile, it was informed that the concluding function shall be held at Conference hall Bandipora in the shape of mega seminar on 22nd of March in which DDC members, BDCs, Sarpanchs, District JJM members, ICDs / Asha workers shall participate.
The ADC on the occasion was accompanied by Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Executive Engineer PHE, Abdul Khaliq and other senior officers of the district.
