Though former Jammu & Kashmir Governor and the incumbent Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik is always in news for making off the cuff remarks over one or the other issue but his remark over the leaders of the protesting farmers is questionable on many counts keeping in view his role in Jammu & Kashmir both before and after the announcement of August 5, 2019 constitutional moves by the incumbent central government commanded and controlled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Malik the incumbent Meghalaya Governor and former Jammu & Kashmir Governor saying that farm laws are anti-farmers can be questioned that if he believes that farm laws are anti-farmer then would he like to call August 5, 2019 constitutional moves over erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state pro Kashmiri or anti-Kashmir . Question can also be asked that if Satya Pal Malik according to his own latest statement over farmers protests could prevail upon both Home Minister and the Prime Minister to prevent arrest of protesting farmers including Rakesh Tikait then why he instead of detaining mainstream leaders in Jammu & Kashmir on August 5, 2019 did not show the courage to advise the Home Minister and the Prime Minister not to press for the detention of the mainstream leaders of Jammu & Kashmir as a mark of respect to democracy. Had Satyapal Malik little bit of respect for democracy, then he won’t have pushed hundreds of mainstream leaders into jails and sub jails just for the fear of mobilising protests against the August 5,2019 constitutional moves of the central government in Srinagar and Jammu .
Even naives can’t believe Satya Pal Malik’s claim that after his downgrading in stature from the Governor of two states to the governors of two smaller states like Goa and Meghalaya he can muster the courage to prevail upon the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to prevent the arrest of top farmer leaders including Rakesh Tikat.
Preventing the arrest of farmer leaders on the charges of mobilising the anti-government protests and detaining Jammu & Kashmir’s mainstream leaders to prevent them from mobilising anti-government protests in August 2019 shows that Satya Pal Malik believes in the politics of convenience and politics of discrimination and not politics of conscience and politics of neutrality. While the fact remains that after the downgrading of Jammu & Kashmir from state to a union territory Satya Pal Malik was himself downgraded in stature in three successive moves of transfers that saw him moving from Bihar to Jammu & Kashmir, from Jammu & Kashmir to Goa and from Goa to Meghalaya, his claim over the prevention of arrests of farmer leaders can’t be believed even by his own followers.
