Bandipora: Kashmir has cradled many great poets in the past from Lal Ded to Nadim, and from Habba Khatoon to Mahjoor, who have explored themes like freedom, love, harmony and the problems of the common people.
The young Hijr Momin, a 17 year old boy from Nadihal village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district is passionately scribbling Urdu couplets from some years now in a hope to succeed as a poet.
A shopkeepers son, Momins words have already touched many hearts. Grown in poverty, Momins words are packed with emotions as he has been passionate about writing poetry from very young age.
Keen about his interest and love for Islamic literature, Momin was motivated by his family to write too apart from achieving regular school education, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, his father says.
Momin is a science student of 12th standard, in 10th he qualified with flying colours with 90 per cent marks.
Besides this the young Hijr is also leading prayers at a local mosque.

Momin said that he has been reading and writing poetry from 2013.
“I was passionate about poetry from my childhood, but from class 7th, I started to scribble words on paper. It has been six years now that I am writing poetry,” said Momin.
Hijr says, “We don’t have to give up on writing, write in any genre without caring for grammatical mistakes. The time comes when we omit our mistakes on our own.”
Momin recently took part in a programme which was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Students corner where he was handed a state level champion award.
The event was all about the struggles that one had faced in his or her life. Is life really worth it if there are no challenges? Sure a straight road is easy, but it’s the curves that make life interesting. Welcome life’s hiccups and overcome them with your smile and hardwork.
The main motive of the event was to make one aware about it’s strength as strength comes from struggle.
