Kulgam: On the eve of International Women’s Day, a daylong debate cum seminar on the theme ‘Women in Leadership’ was organized by the Seminar Committee of GDC Frisal, Homeshalibug, here.
The daylong event was presided over by Dr. Tasleema Jan, Head Department of Education University of Kashmir.
In her presidential address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Tasleema Jan deliberated on the theme and highlighted the role played by the women in making the society. She talked about the gender based violence and measures to curb these social evils, besides sharing her personal experiences as a mother, wife and as head of the department of a prestigious institution.
The Principal of college, Prof. Syed Eazaz Hussain Rizvi welcomed the Chief Guest, faculty members and students and mentioned that International Women’s Day is celebrated globally to recognize and appreciate women achievers in different fields.
He stressed upon gender sensitization and social evils in the society and asked the students of college to take an active part in these events.
Speaking on the Occasion Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad, convener Debate and Seminar Committee highlighted the contributions of women towards society.
Many students spoke on the occasion and highlighted different issues that women mostly face like dowry deaths, domestic violence, gender sensitization etc and stressed the need to celebrate this day.
