Bandipora : On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmed, a market checking squad of Legal Metrology realized a fine of Rs 30150 from erring shopkeepers in Bandipora district during several inspections in the month of February.
Taking strong note of the complaints of over-pricing, the district administration launched a massive district-wide inspection drive to curb over pricing and take immediate action against instances of violations.
The DC has directed all the concerned officers to ensure regular inspections of markets falling within their respective jurisdiction and take strict action against those indulging in overpricing and other malpractices.
The Department of Legal Metrology led by Assistant Controller conducted inspection of various business establishments including vegetable, fruit sellers, Kiryana, Bakery, LPG distributors and fuel dispensing pumps, Mutton, Milk, Hardware at Naidkhai, Asham, SK Bala and main market during the last month.
During the inspection, the traders were booked under different laws for violation of various legal metrology laws and fine was imposed on erring traders.
On the occasion, officers stressed on the traders to follow the rules in letter and spirit and also asked the vendors to follow the packaged commodity rules and other Metrology Acts.
Meanwhile, the DC said that the drive will continue on a regular basis across all district markets to keep a check on traders and shopkeepers for indulging in overcharging and other unethical activities.
