Srinagar: Alleging that centre’s tactics to intimidate and browbeat political opponents to make them toe their line has become tediously predictable, former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said that such ‘short sighted scheming would not work’.

Ms Mehbooba was reacting to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoning her in an alleged money laundering case on March 15 to New Delhi.

“GOIs tactics to intimidate & browbeat political opponents to make them toe their line has become tediously predictable. They don’t want us to raise questions about its punitive actions & policies. Such short sighted scheming won’t work,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

Official sources said that a notice was issued by ED on Friday, directing Ms Mehbooba to appear before the directorate on March 15 at 1130 hrs in New Delhi.

The notice comes months after the residence of Ms Mehbooba’s close aide Anjum Fazili was raided by ED in a money laundering case linked to alleged financial fraud at the J&K Bank.

Ms Mehbooba had in the past alleged that ED is being ‘weaponised by the ruling party to hound political opponents’.

The PDP president in December 2020 wrote a letter to the Director of the ED, claiming that various persons from Kashmir related to her were summoned by the agency. “The only common thread connecting these persons appears to be that they are all acquainted with me, my family or my politics in one way or another. The questioning of these persons is also focused on myself, my personal, political and financial affairs, my late father’s grave and memorial, my sister’s finances, home constructions, my brother’s finances and personal affairs etc,” she had said in the letter.
