B’gam: A seminar on ‘Role of Media in Society’ was Thursday conducted at Sheikh-ul-Alam conference hall, here by Budgam Journalist Association (BJA).
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Budgam was the Chief Guest on the occasion, and was attended by ACD, CMO, DIO and DEPO besides others.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC highlighted the role of Government and private media in taking districts to the higher level of socio-economic development. He urged upon all the stakeholders to work with passion and zeal to disseminate timely, relevant and authentic information for the benefit of the public.
The ADC also cautioned the media about the menace of fake and paid news and exhorted media houses to verify the content of news before breaking the news and sensationalizing the issue.
CMO Budgam also addressed the gathering and shared his experience with the audience. He said the media has a pivotal role to play in creating massive awareness about Government schemes.
The DIO in his speech welcomed the Budgam Journalist Association for holding a program on the role of media in society which in fact is the need of the hour.
Writer Mushtaq Ahmad Shameem also spoke on the occasion and enlightened the audience about the essence of print, electronic and social media in modern times.
Among others, private media fraternity and budding students of journalism participated in the program.
