10th J&K Championship concludes: Advisor Baseer Khan distributes prizes

Jammu: 10th Jammu & Kashmir Shooting Championship concluded at General Zorawar Singh Rifle Club Bari Brahmana, Jammu with an impressive Prize Distribution Ceremony here Tuesday.
The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by the Chief Guest, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan.
The event was being organised by Jammu & Kashmir Rifle Association and was sponsored by Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
The chief guest on the occasion gave away the medals and certificates to the winners and participants. Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Baseer Khan expressed happiness on the successful completion of the 10th J&K Shooting Championship.
He also congratulated all the winners, organizers and authorities of J&K Rifle Association who made all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event. The Advisor extended all the possible help in the promotion of shooting as a sports activity in JK. He said that successful completion of events like these will go a long way in bringing out one of the best shooting clubs in the country from J&K.
Around 100 shooters from various districts of J&K participated in the championship. The competition was held in 10 meters, 25 meters, 50 meters Rifle and Pistol events from February 26 to March 02.
Shooters, who attained minimum qualifying score (MQS) will be eligible to participate in 40th North Zone Shooting Championship which is scheduled to be held at Jaipur (Rajasthan) from Rifle/Pistol events from March 23 to April 06.
Prominent among others present included Dr S D Singh Jamwal, Dr Ashoutosh Sharma, G S Charak, Amjad Parvez Mirza, S.S Sodhi.
First ever ‘Candle Lighting Ceremony’ for 17th Senior National Soft Tennis Championship held at Srinagar
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Soft Tennis Association in collaboration with J&K Sports Council and J&K Tourism Department organized first of its kind ‘Candle Lighting Ceremony’ for grand success of 17th Senior National Soft Tennis Championship commencing here from 4th of Marchch 221.
The 5 day national tourney is being participated by more than 600 players and officials from various states and Union Territories of the country.
Director Tourism, Kashmir, G N Itoo, who was chief guest on the occasion, appreciated the organizers of the event saying that it is a great privilege for Jammu and Kashmir to host such a mega sports event here. “The hosting of a national level event itself speaks of the volumes of growth and development being registered by the present dispensation towards promoting and encouraging games in the region”, he maintained.
Director also appreciated the J&K talented players for their huge participation in the event with a hope that they will definitely bring laurels to Jammu & Kashmir by exhibiting their optimum potential and commitment in this specific game of Soft Tennis which is gaining momentum tremendously during the past few years.
Dr. Narinder Batra, IOA President also appreciated the Candle Light Ceremony which would prove to be a good omen for grand success of this national event.
