Budgam, Kulgam: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have arrested 5 drug peddlers from Kulgam and Budgam districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police statement issued on Saturday said “ In Kulgam officers at a checkpoint established at Mirbazar Chowk intercepted a vehicle (Alto K-10) bearing registration number JK01AD-1930 with one person on board identified as Aejaz Ahmad Sofi a resident of Dal Colony Khomani Chowk Srinagar from whom 8.5 Kgs of grinded poppy straw was recovered following which he was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody”. Police in the above referred statement also said that case FIR No. 35/2021 under relevant sections of the law has been registered at the Police Station Qazigund and investigation have been initiated.
Stating that yet in another similar incident a police party from police station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Nassu Badragund crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number PB29X-3448 with three persons on board identified as Gurpreet Singh, Baljeet Singh, and Banarsi Das all residents of Danuri, tehsil Morinada, District Roopar Punjab, Police in the above referred statement said “during checking officers recovered 3.5 Kg of Poppy Straw from their possession following which they were arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.
Vehicles used in the commissions of crime have also been seized. A case vide FIR No. 34/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund and investigation is in progress”.
Police in it’s also disclosed that in Budgam, officers at the checkpoint established at Arigam Khanshab intercepted a person identified as Riyaz Ahmed Ganie resident of Arigam Khanshab and recovered from him 3Kgs of Cannabis following which he was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. “Case FIR No. 20/2021 under relevant sections of law stand registered at Police Station Khanshab and investigation has been taken up” reads the statement.
