Drugs are considered as the enemy of every religion. They have destructive effects on life and create unrest in society. With the gradual use of drugs the user’s become more addicted to it and cause damage to body organs; loss of digestion, less food intake, ablution of eyes and drying of mouth and throat are all its side effects. Addiction is a kind of disease that affects all the body, brain, behavior, and personality of a person. Tolerance occurs in the body of an addict to the first dose of the drug and persuades one to increase the first dose to get the primary results of it, so frequently the person addicts the drug physically and physiologically. Drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, opium etc. are definitely included in the prohibited category of khamr. It is well known that the use of such drugs affects the sensory perceptions also. Such drugs are taken as means of escape from the inner reality of one’s feelings and the outer realities of life and religion into the realm of fantasy and imagination. Ultimately, addiction to drugs renders a person a diseased member of a society. In addition to this drug addiction may result in the destruction of the family or even in a life of crime. When we recall the principle that impure and harmful things have been made haram, there can be no doubt in our minds concerning the prohibition of such detestable substances such as drugs, which cause so much physical, psychological, moral, social and economic harm.

Because of many adverse effects of drugs and smoke, and referring to some verses of Quran and some Hadith, which have forbidden the malevolence we can conclude that Muslims should avoid of smoking and drug abuse.

The Muslim Jurists were unanimous in prohibiting those drugs which were found during their respective times and places. It is the rule of the Islamic Shariah that any prohibited thing which is desired by people, such as wine and illicit sexual relations, is to be punished by imposing hadd. A general rule of the Islamic Shariah is that it is haram for the Muslims to eat or drink anything which may cause his death, either quickly or gradually through the substances which are injurious to health or harmful to our body. Almighty Allah says, “And do not kill yourselves; indeed, Allah is ever merciful to you”. Almighty Allah also says, “And do not be cast into ruin by your own hands”. There is also saying from Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that, “Do not harm yourself or others”. It is also proved that the use of tobacco is injurious to health; it is haram especially for those whose physician has advised him to stop smoking. Taking all these substances which are not only injurious to health but it is also the wastage of money. Because of many adverse effects of drugs and smoke, and referring to some verses of Quran and some Hadith, which have forbidden the malevolence we can conclude that Muslims should avoid of smoking and drug abuse.
