Srinagar: National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar on Monday took a review meeting of preparations afoot for the death anniversary observance of Party stalwart and former General Secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmed.

While chairing the review meeting which saw the participation of Party’s Central Secretary Irfan Shah, District President Srinagar Peer Afaq and eight block presidents of Srinagar district and other district functionaries, Party General Secretary stated that late Nazir Sahib was the embodiment of the ideals and virtues of Sher-e-Kashmir. “A strong spirited person he was! His contribution to the party is unparalleled. A statesman to the core, he stood for his principles till his last breath,” Sagar said the void created by his demise is unarguably hard to fill, his honesty and steadfastness, he stated would continue to inspire the rank and file of the party. He further added that the anniversary observance day affords the party men an opportunity to peep into the live of this illustrious son of soil. He said observing anniversary is a means by which we all in the party try to rejuvenate ourselves with the renewed vigour and vitality to serve the people by strictly adhering to the party’s emancipative, inclusive and pro-poor agenda.

Keeping in view the present COVID-19 protocol, it was decided to have a small congregation of party functionaries at the graveyard of the veteran leader at Malik Sahib Soura. The party leaders, it was decided will visit the grave yard at Malik Sahib on 24 of February at 10.00 am in the morning and offer floral tributes and Fateh at the final resting place of Late Nazir Sahib. The occasion would also mark the recital of holy verses from the Quran. Glowing tributes to the late party veteran would be also paid at Party Headquarter Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, and party units of Pir Panchal, Chenab, and all district headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir.

On the occasion the Party General Secretary also released party’s tribute poster for late Sheikh Nazir Sahib. Later on the occasion, party functionaries who were present in the meeting also paid homage to the veteran leader.

Among other issues the issues concerning the people ranging from administrative inertia to development deficit also predominated the meeting. While interacting with the party functionaries, Sagar said, “The absence of democracy and long spell of bureaucratic rule has stymied the entire region. The bureaucrats have no skin in the administration and are not subjected to the public wrath in wake of not rising up to the people’s expectations. The airdropped coterie of officials at the helm of power in JK seems to care little about the issues concerning the people.”

He stated the unrelated bureaucracy look without seeing, listen without hearing and proclaim decisions, changing people’s lives without taking cognizance of the wishes and aspirations of the people. “The failure to give impetus to the infra-projects , ineptitude to cope up with the aftermaths of the rampaging two successive lock downs post august 5 2019 has badly exposed the failures of coterie having their hands on the helms of power in J&K. we only saw officials change their stripes and do photo-ops. The over centralization of the center in Jammu and Kashmir is “pushing one size for all” kind of measures with little consideration people’s aspirations,” he said.

Remarking on the membership drive, Sagar said that NC was all set to create new membership records. He stated that the overwhelming support for NC was visible during the ongoing membership drive. “The interest from all segments of the society towards NC is a telling reflection of people’s faith in our policies. The keen interest from all the segments of people towards joining NC in Chenab, Plain of Jammu, and Pir Panchal is overwhelming,” he said.

He stated that the Party President Dr Farooq Abdullah’s political foresight and the political acumen and sincerity of Party Vice President have played a major role in alluring new members to into the party fold.

“The rush seen to join the party folds is insightful of how strongly the policies of NC have fared well in all the regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The compelling support for NC in the recent DDC polls and the undergoing membership drive has dispirited those who had forecasted our doom. Fortunately, the immense support of people from all sections of society across the breadth and length of JK has debunked all the sham propaganda,” he added.
