2 drug peddlers in Awantipora and Kulgam; contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Awantipora & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police statement issued on Saturday said “ in Awantipora, officers at a checkpoint established at Batagund Crossing Tral intercepted a suspicious person identified as Bashir Ahmad Dar resident of Larow Jagir Tral and recovered 2Kgs of Cannabis powder from his possession. He was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody”, adding that “ accordingly, a case FIR No. 10/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tral and investigation into the matter has been initiated”.
Police in it’s statement further said “in yet another similar incident officers in the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirbazar in Kulgam district established a checkpoint at Vessu Chowk and intercepted a vehicle (Bolero) bearing Chassis No. MA1ZP2TLKL6K29287 with one person on board identified as Subhash Chander resident of Karyal Khurad Colony Vishna, Jammu and recovered from him 225kgs of poppy straw concealed in 09 gunny bags from the said vehicle”, adding that “ the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”.
Stating that a case FIR No. 31/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation into the matter has been initiated, police in the concluding para of it’s statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that “actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace”.
