Jammu/ Feb. 16 :Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF ) and former minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has expressed serious concern over the reported move of the government to impose property tax in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Hakeem while expressing serious concern about government plan to levy property tax on land and houses in municipal limits in Jammu and Kashmir has described the move as a cruel anti -people and anti -poor proposition . He has asked the government to desist from levying property tax adding that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are already reeling under severe financial distress due to prevailing abnormal situation and political instability.
PDF Chairman has cautioned the government against its anti people policies adding that they ( people) were yet to come out of shock on account of levying toll taxes that another sword in the shape of property tax is being put on thier head. He said people will be forced to come on roads in protest against levying of property tax, if the proposed move was not shelved. He said government should come clean on the issue to remove all concerns and apprehension among the people on reports about levying of property tax in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the present dispensation has surpassed all records of imposing arbitrary taxes , making the life of people miserable and uncomfortable.
