Directorate of ISM AYUSH celebrates World Unani Day-2021

Srinagar: Directorate of Indian System of Medicine ISM (AYUSH), Jammu and Kashmir Thursday organized a grand seminar to celebrate 5th World Unani Day at Auditorium Hall, Government Dental College, here.
The World Unani Day is celebrated on February 11 every year to commemorate visionary scholar Hakim Ajmal Khan on his birthday, who has contributed in the development of the Unani system of Medicine.
Director ISM, J&K, Dr. Mohan Singh while providing the historical background of World Unani day said Hakim Ajmal Khan is the founder of Ayurvedic Medicine who envisioned the role of Unani Medicine long before. He said Ajmal Khan emphasized on the establishing of laboratories for research to sustain the traditional Medicine system.
Meanwhile, Dr Singh informed that thirteen lakh beneficiaries in India have been provided Ayurvedic medicine during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He also informed that the admission notification of the first batch of Government Unani Medical College has been issued Thursday. He expressed gratitude to the concerned for helping to take this historical leap in the development of the profession in Kashmir.
On the occasion he also shared details regarding the status of several ongoing infrastructural and research projects of ISM in J&K.
Principal Government Medical College, Srinagar Dr Samia Rashid, who is also Incharge Principal, Government Unani Medical College on the occasion highlighted the healing philosophy of Unani Medicine and said this curing philosophy has been used in India for many years and is leading among the world of Ayurvedic medicine practicing countries.
She while congratulating Director ISM and staff of the College for starting the first batch, said a better future is created by one who perceives the present, to create the better future one will have to give his best in the present.
Professor, Department of Medicine, Aligrah Muslim University, B D Khan, called Hakim Ajmal Khan a great scholar, poet, social reformer, politician and freedom fighter who served as president of Indian national Congress and Muslim league. He enlightened the audience regarding the upbringing, education and family lineage of Hakim Ajmal Khan besides his contribution as social reformer and freedom fighter.
Speaking on the occasion, President National Unani Doctors Welfare Association, (NUDWA) Dr Moyeed called Hakim Ajmal Khan a great visionary leader who envisioned the contribution of Unani Medicine.
Further, ADMO Srinagar presented a digital magazine on ISM to Director ISM highlighting the achievements of the department besides a documentary on the subject was also screened on the occasion.
Later, former three officers of the department were honored with the trophies besides mementoes were presented to the guests.
Among others, General Secretary, NUDWA, Dy. Director ISM, Kashmir, ADMOs, galaxy of Doctors and students were present on the occasion.
