Director Handicrafts & Handlooms reviews functioning of Quality Control Division

Srinagar: Director Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir, Mehmood Ahmad Shah Wednesday convened a review meeting of Quality Control Division, here.
On the occasion, Deputy Director, Dr. Deebah Khalid Peer apprised the Director about the activities of the Quality Control Division, and the implementation of the Acts viz Jammu & Kashmir Namdha Quality Control Act, Jammu & Kashmir Handicrafts Quality Control Act and Jammu & Kashmir Tourist Trade Act 1978. All the three acts were discussed threadbare.
The Director stressed upon the need for proper implementation of the Acts to safeguard the interests of the artisan community, by regularly monitoring the activities of the Handicrafts dealers to ensure sale of only genuine handicraft items to the Tourists/Customers.
The field staff was accordingly directed that efforts should be made to educate the general public about the menace of fake machine made items being sold by some unscrupulous dealers, in the name of Kashmir Arts & Crafts.
He also emphasized upon the need for enforcement of GI tagging on Pashmina products, directions were issued to the field staff to launch a massive campaign to apprise the handicrafts dealers about the benefits of the GI tagging on the notified Handicraft products.
In order to achieve the desired results the field staff was directed that provisions of the J&K Tourist Trade Act 1978 must be complied in letter and spirit by all Handicrafts dealers of Jammu & Kashmir, and ensuring tagging/labeling of all the notified crafts, for price and product specification.
The Director stressed upon the need to revamp activities of the Quality Control Division in line with the latest technological advancements for improving its efficiency of the officials to achieve the desired results.
The meeting among others was attended by Dr. Deebah Khalid Peer, Deputy Director, Quality Control Inspector, Technical Assistants and Quality Control Supervisors.
