In the proposed election for the Chairpersons of proposed district development councils (DDCs’) Sajad Lone heading Peoples’ Conference the pre-election ally of Farooq Abdullah headed Peoples’ Alliance For Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) would be facing a litmus tests over his political morality which has been the benchmark of his politics since 2019’s August 5 decisions of the incumbent central government on erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state. Though political morality demands that Sajad Lone does not use the vote for PAGD against it one way or the other in the proposed election of the Chairpersons to the newly elected district development councils (DDCs), but Sajad Lone going against PAGD in the proposed elections for DDC Chairpersons can not be ruled out keeping in view his party’s position in North Kashmir’s Baramulla and Kupwara districts. Sajad Lone who choose to quit the PAGD over the proxy candidate row after calling violation of alliance norms in DDC elections a breach of trust will have to show respect for the trust PAGD top brass reposed in him by supporting his party’s official candidates in the recently held DDC elections. Interestingly Sajad Lone’s Peoples Conference could play the role of tie breaker in the election of DDC Chairpersons in North Kashmir’s Baramulla and Kupwara districts and as such it remains to be seen that whether Peoples Conference prefers post poll alliance with PAGD constituents or their opponents in both the north Kashmir districts. While the irrefutable fact is that Sajad Lone’s Peoples’ Conference won’t have won the no of seats without the official sponsorship and support of PAGD on it’s own which it has won with the sponsorship and support of PAGD, Sajad Lone’s any move to use the votes of his victorious DDC members against the PAGD one way or the other would be an insult to political morality and consequently a breach of the trust reposed in him by PAGD top brass before the commencement of DDC elections. Sajad Lone using the votes of his victorious candidates even for the election of any independent candidate as DDC Chairperson would also be as good a betrayal as would be support to any anti-PAGD party or anti-PAGD alliance.

Though post poll alliance with anti-PAGD and pro-BJP forces would give the Peoples Conference the much desired opportunity to grab the posts of DDC Chairpersons in the twin north Kashmir districts-Baramulla and Kupwara but the same being the biggest ever betrayal of an alliance seeking the restoration of the special position of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state as it existed on August 4, 2019 would surely reduce Peoples Conference from a growing regional party to a political non entity in both Kupwara and Baramulla districts of North Kashmir. So the consequences of any breach of political morality by Sajad Lone or his Peoples Conference could politically prove disastrous for both the Peoples Conference and as well as it’s Chairman Sajad Lone in the coming years.
