Tpt Comr seeks effective traffic regulation to minimise road mishaps

Jammu: Motor Vehicles Department, in collaboration with Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu Thursday organised a Symposium on road safety measures.
The symposium was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Transport Commissioner, J&K, Pardeep Kumar at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
Highlighting the importance of National Road Safety Month, the Transport Commissioner observed that enforcement of Traffic regulations and awareness about Road Safety measures is essential for preventing road accidents. He advised the department to organise such activities throughout the year to create a change in mindset of the people so that the people voluntarily follow traffic rules. Chief Guest further said Road Accidents are preventable and it is very much important that awareness programmes organised with active involvement of students, youth and scholars to prevent such accidents.
Earlier, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Dhananter Singh, while welcoming the chief guests and other guests, highlighted the series of events to being organised during the Road Safety Month from 18th January, to 17th February, 2021. He stressed the need for following road safety rules and highlighted the pivotal role of younger generations like college/school students in imparting the awareness about road safety measures among themselves and to the entire society.
SSP (Traffic), Jammu, Shiv Kumar Sharma lauded the role of the department in organising such road safety activities for developing a sense of safe driving among the students. He stressed upon the need to follow and observe traffic rules in our daily lives.
Dr. Chanchal Angral, Nodal Officer, GGM Science College, Jammu appreciated the role of the Motor Vehicles Department, Jammu in organising such road safety activities of prime importance as road accidents are the biggest causes of deaths in our country.
On this occasion, Kannu Sharma and Nikilesh Khajuria of GGM Science College won 1st and 2nd Prize; Anchal Bhat of GCW Gandhinagar won 3rd prize. Besides, Uzma, Parul Sharma of GGM Science college and Wasiq-ul-Hassan of GDC Sidhra won Consolation prizes for their performance.
Prof. Mala Bhasin of GCW Gandhinagar and Prof. Harvinder Kour of GGM Science College, Jammu were Judges and Mridu Sharma of Department of English, Jammu University was Announcer.
ARTO, Board of Inspection (Passenger), Jammu, Esha Chib, presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
Gurmukh Singh, Joint Transport Commissioner, J&K; Pawan Sharma, ARTO, Board of Inspection (Goods), Jammu; Sunil Singh, Dy. SP (Traffic), Jammu; Mohd Naaz, Dy. SP (Traffic), Jammu; teachers and students of GGM Science College, Jammu, GCW Gandhinagar and GDC Sidhra; Ikra Kak, Cultural Officer, University of Jammu; Motor Vehicle Inspectors; DTIs and other staff of the MVD, Jammu were also present on the occasion. Besides, Vijay Singh Chib, President, Mini-Bus Union, Jammu; Puneet Arora, Prop. EETOO Bakery Products, Jammu and various other media persons attended the programme.
