Kulgam: As part of ongoing National Road Safety Month, Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Kulgam in collaboration with Kashmir Civil Services Academy, Anantnag and Scientific Institute of Excellence, Kulgam Monday organised inter school and inter college ‘Essay Competition’ on ‘Importance of Road Safety Education for Children’.
More Than 250 students from various schools and colleges participated in the event that was held at Govt Higher Secondary School, Qaimoh.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Kulgam, Mir Imtiyaz ul Aziz was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, he said in India we are losing more than 1.5 lakh persons annually which is a very disturbing number. The need of hour is to inculcate safer road habits among the youth to decline these disturbing numbers.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kulgam, Dr Mohammad Zubair Lattoo said road safety education can play wonders in preventing preventable deaths in order to highlight and emphasize the need for safe roads.
Dr Zubair further emphasized that essay competition can be an effective road safety advocacy tool to impart traffic rules/knowledge in our youth which will in-turn help us making the journey on road safer.
It was informed that the students who will achieve first, second and third positions in the competition will be felicitated with Merit Certificate, Trophies and Cash Prizes during the valedictory function. Further all the participants will be given certificates of participation.
