3 drug peddlers arrested in G’bal and Kulgam; contraband substances recovered : Police

G’bal, Kulgam: Police in its recent action against drug dealings in Ganderbal and Kulgam have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police statement issued here on Saturday said “In Ganderbal, officers at a checkpoint established in Wakoora signalled two persons riding on a motorcycle bearing registration No. JK16-5197 to stop but they tried to flee from the spot”, adding that “they were chased and apprehended tactfully by the alert police party”. Identifying the detained accused as Fayaz Ahmad Teli resident of Hajin Bandipora and Shahijahan Ahmad Parra resident of Zazna, police in it’s statement further said “during checking, officers were able to recover 18 bottles of Codeine Phosphate like substance concealed in a bag from their possession. The accused were arrested and shifted to Police Station Ganderbal where they remain in custody. The motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”.
Stating that a case FIR No. 08/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Ganderbal and investigation in the matter has been initiated, the police in it’s statement also said “In Kulgam, officers from Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Nepora Chowk area of Qazigund, intercepted a vehicle (Santro Car) bearing registration No.JK03B-8315 with one person on board identified as Shahid Ahmad Thoker resident of Waghama Bijebhara”.
Disclosing that during checking, officers recovered 43 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in two gunny bags from his possession, the police in it’s statement said “ the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”.
Stating that a case FIR number 13/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation into the matter has been initiated, police in it’s statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, saying that “actions against drug peddlers should reassure people that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in police-public meetings”
