Srinagar: After remaining closed for traffic movement on Friday for maintenance on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, traffic authorities have decided to allow traffic from Jammu towards Srinagar today (January 23).
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Traffic T Namgyal when contacted said, “The traffic will ply from Jammu towards Srinagar only, and no vehicle from opposite direction will be allowed to move.”
A communiqué issued by Traffic Police Headquarters J&K, reads: “Tomorrow on 23-01-2021, subject to fair weather and better road condition, only one way traffic shall be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar including Ramban-Banihal.”
Meanwhile, Mughal Road the alternative road which connects the Valley to Jammu division through the Shopian-Rajouri continued to be closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall.
Kashmir is currently under the grip of ‘Chillai-Kalan’ the 40-day harsh winter period that started from December 21 and will end on January 31.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar MET has predicted another spell of snowfall in valley.
“Another WD most likely to affect J&K and Kargil district during 22nd (Eve.) to 25th (F/N). This will give Fairly widespread to Widespread light to moderate snowfall /rain in plains of Jmu with main activity on 24th. This system is weaker than the previous one,” Meteorological Centre Srinagar had tweeted.
