Jammu: Director General Police Dilbagh Singh on Tuesday said that Jammu & Kashmir police will continue to work for strengthening peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. He made the remark during his address to the closing ceremony of 9th Inter Club Cricket Championship conducted by Jammu & Kashmir Police. On his arrival, the DGP laid floral wreaths at the martyr gallery and lightened the lamp to pay homage to the brave martyrs.

Speaking on the occasion, the DGP appreciated the efforts of Police Welfare Association, Kathua Police and associate partners for organizing the event annually and said that they are doing a sacred duty as this tournament is aimed to pay tributes to the brave hearts who sacrificed their lives in line of duty. He appreciated the participation of the families of police men killed in action , the DDC members and youth of Kathua for encouraging the Kathua Police and police welfare association. He thanked the media fraternity for giving a wide coverage to the event.

The DGP said that JK Police has been organizing sports tournaments throughout the year particularly after September 2020 to pay tribute to our brave martyrs who laid down their lives for the security of the country and it’s people.  He said that without caring for their lives and of their families the police ranks performed their duties to provide better atmosphere to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it is very painful that during last year only we lost 62 security personnel including 16 from JK Police. However, it also makes us very proud that to protect the integrity of the country and to serve its people, we are ready to sacrifice our lives. ‘I also convey my condolences to the families of these brave soldiers who lost their loved ones while protecting the interests of people and the country.” DGP added.

The DGP said Jammu and Kashmir Police is engaged on different fronts to strengthen the peace in Jammu and Kashmir and added that it is our mission to provide better platforms to our youth to utilize their energy in constructive activities like sports , cultural and educational events . He said that a number of positive changes took place during last two years and we will continue to work with more dedication to strengthen the peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pertinent to mention that the tournament was inaugurated by the DGP on 23rd February 2020 in which total 16 teams participated of which 04 teams were from Jammu & Kashmir and rest 12 teams were from other States and UTs from North India. The tournament was suspended due to outbreak of COVID-19. The final match of the championship was played between Lal Bhadhur Shastri Club Delhi and Haryana Cricket Association Dasa Border. Lal Bhadhur Shastri Club Delhi won the title by 28 runs.

The DGP distributed the trophies and cash prizes to the winner and runner up teams and also distributed sports kits among the players.

SSP Kathua Shalinder Mishra in his welcome address thanked the DGP J&K, all other dignitaries, DDC members and the spectators for making the closing ceremony a grand success. He also thanked all the participating teams, Kathua Police personnel, media and partner associates for completing the 9th Police martyrs tournament despite a long break which occurred due to outbreak of pandemic. He said that besides this championship Kathua Police has organised a number of tournaments for the youth under JK Police’s Civic Action Porgramme.
