Srinagar Municipal Commissioner reviews snow clearance, dewatering progress

Srinagar: In a meeting held under the chairmanship of Commisssioner SMC Mr Gazanfar Ali here at Municipal central office Karan Nagar, to review and take update on snow clearance Progress in Srinagar city ,It was informed that Srinagar Municipal Corporation has cleared snow from Hospitals, inner lanes/bye lanes (Kochas), footpaths, Shrines, Mosques, Temples, Gurduwaras, Essential Departments viz Ration Ghats, Primary Health Centres etc through existing staff of 2700 Sanitation Workers . It was also updated in meeting that 78% snow has been cleared from all Municipal Wards upto 12 Noon dated 08.01.2021 and mechanically 75% through JCBs/Loaders.
In view of the heavy snowfall Srinagar Municipal Corporation hired 15 JCBs in addition to its own 19 JCBs/Loaders w.e.f 05.01.2021 and started night snow clearance operation as well which is still in progress. The snow clearance will continue till all lanes/bye lanes etc are cleared for facilitating the general masses. Besides this SMC has received 430 grievances for snow clearance which were redressed accordingly. While reviewing dewatering Mr Ali was informed that
i) 85 permanent dewatering pumps are functional 24×7.
ii. 34 mobile dewatering pumps have been already installed at vulnerable places.
ii). 83 dewatering mobile pumps are ready for deployment as and when required for any place of Srinagar City. Adequate POL has been provided to above said dewatering stations/mobile pumps so that pumps remain operational even in absence of electricity facility.
iii). 15 Municipal Sucker Jetting Machines are also put on job for dewatering purpose.
The meeting was attended by Joint Commisssioner Works Ishtiyaq Ahmed Shah , S.E Drainage Ahsaan ul Haq, Secretary SMC Sofi Akbar, Xen Mech Itrat Naseem, Chief Sanitation Officer Mudasir Banday , Chief Transport Officers Syed Nisar ,all Enforcement officers and others.
