Awantipora police arrests 2 drug peddlers, Says “ contraband substance recovered”

Awantipora: Police in Awantipora have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
A statement issued by police on Saturday said “ police party from Police Post Reshipora at a checkpoint established at Dattpora Awantipora intercepted two suspicious personsdentified as Rayees Ahmad Bhat and Mohammad Dawood Bhat both residents of Reshipora Awantipora but during checking, Officers were able to recover 14Kgs of poppy straw from their possession”, adding that “ the duo werre arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where they remain in custody”.
Police in it’s statement further said that a case FIR No. 199/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation into the matter has been initiated”.
Police in it’s statement also appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
“The actions against drug peddlers should reassure the people that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace”, the statement reads.
