CUK VC inaugurates 5 laboratories for science students

G’bal: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice Chancellor. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir Tuesday inaugurated five newly established laboratories for the Science students and two-day induction programme cum webinar for the newly admitted students of the Biotechnology, Zoology, Botany and Chemistry in Science campus at Nunar here.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir as per a statement issued on Tuesday said the laboratories for the departments of Zoology, Biotechnology, Chemistry and Botany are fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and instruments which would help the research scholars and students to perform their practical and research work without any hindrance.
Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir extended a warm welcome to the newly admitted students and said, “The faculty, officers and other allied staff will extend all possible help, support and cooperation to the students to achieve excellence in their respective fields of study.”
He said the varsity has the distinction of conducting End Semester Examinations on time and declaring the results within the stipulated period. “Despite facing several challenges, both climatic and situational, the university has successfully been able to complete the degrees of the students without any delay,” he said. He asked the freshers to seek guidance from the respective faculty members as and when needed.
Prof. Mir asked the students to actively participate in extracurricular activities including debates and competitions organised by the teachings departments and Directorate of Students Welfare to showcase their talent, adding, the students should also participate in the events organised by other higher educational institutions and bring laurels to the varsity. He also had a one-to-one interaction with the freshers in their classrooms and asked them to be innovative.
Addressing the gathering, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, said the induction programme gives a detailed insight and introduction to the new students about the functioning of the university, department and the faculty members. He said that despite facing several constraints on the infrastructural front, the university is marching ahead on the academics and have started the programmes in Botany and Chemistry during this session. Prof. Zargar said the newly established laboratories will enable the students to inculcate scientific temper.
Dean School of Life Sciences, Prof. M Yousuf in his address enumerated the functioning of the department and its goals and vision. He asked the freshers to enjoy their stay in the varsity and help in building a better society and serve the community thereafter. He also apprised the participants about the facilities provided by the university and scheme of the courses offered.
Addressing the students, Dean School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Prof. Wali Muhammad Shah, asked the students to work hard to achieve success. He said that after graduating from the university, the pass out students become the ambassadors of the varsity and hence it was necessary for them to avail all the facilities and enjoy their stay in their respective campuses
The programme proceeding during the inauguration was conducted by Assistant Professor, Dr. Nowsheen while the vote of thanks was proposed by Head Department of Biotechnology, Dr. Abid Hamid.
Later on, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, Prof. Khursheed Andrabi and Head Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Kashmir, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Dean School of Engineering and Technology, CUK, Dr. Ahsan Chishti delivered expert lectures to the students
