Srinagar: Police in Srinagar on Saturday arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
A police statement issued on Saturday said “ officers from Police Station Shaheedgunj intercepted two persons during daily routine checking of vehicles at Jehlum Market Batmaloo and were identified as Waseem Bashir Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh resident of Palapora Noorbagh, Srinagar and Fayaz Ahmad Sofi son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi resident of Hamdania Colony Bemina, Srinagar. Saying that “during checking, officers were able to recover 13 grams of Heroin like substance from their possession”, the police in it’s statement said “both the accused have been arrested and shifted to PS Shaheedgunj where they remain in custody”.
The police in it’s statement also said that a case vide FIR No. 156/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Shaheedgunj and further investigation has been initiated. The police in the above referred statement also appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and warned that people indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, saying that “consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the people that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace”.
