No doubting sloganeering against BJP is at it’s best in Jammu & Kashmir as leaders of contesting political parties show much confusion than the confused electorate in their addresses to election rallies for the ongoing DDC elections. While the leaders J&K Apni Party question the morality of the partners of PAGD (Peoples’ Alliance For Gupkar Declaration) on their alliance with the BJP in yesteryears before the central government’s last year’s August 5 moves on erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state, they don’t offer any explanation for being themselves part of the popular governments run in alliance with the BJP not once but several times both at the centre and in the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state. They also claim credit for raising voice for the protection of land and job rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir after withdrawal of statehood and special status by the central government on August 5 last years but evade queries on questions that why they only were let off and other’s were detained on August 5 the day central government withdrew statehood and special status to erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state. Similarly the leaders of PAGD (Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration) slam J&K Apni Party leaders for tending to be part of BJP for pelf and power but they themselves failed to stop their proxies from fighting against their own official candidates in the ongoing DDC elections and as such PAGD’s broader plan of denying space to BJP has run into rough weather. Twice top National Conference leaders had to appeal their cadres to ensure support and vote for only official PAGD candidates giving an indication that grass root level unity is missing among the PAGD constituents in the ongoing DDC elections.
Unfortunately both Apni party and PAGD leaders show confusion in their overtures against BJP one way or the other as their actions one way or other provide a level playing field to BJP in the ongoing DDC elections in Kashmir. People have judged both J&K Apni Party and as well PAGD by their actions and it is for the leaders of the Kashmir mainstream to prove their words by their actions as otherwise they are fighting a lost battle in fastly changing political scenario of Jammu & Kashmir.
Interestingly PDP President Mehbooba Mufti decries her detention and questions discrimination in the political freedom of leaders in campaigning for ongoing DDC election but does not seek explanations from the leaders of her own party including the likes of Ab Rehman Veerri, Abdul Haq Khan and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain for not campaigning against BJP candidates in the ongoing DDC elections. Slogans don’t matter but actions speak themselves of the intents and plans of any political party or a combination of several parties and more so in election time.
