Handwara: A ferocious bear created havoc by killing ten sheep in Drungoosa Village of Mawer area of North Kashmir’s kupwara District on the intervening of Tuesday-Wednesday.
According to the local resident a bear entered into the cowshed of Mohammed Maqbool Chopan, Abdul Ahad Chopan and Nazir Ahmad Pir last night and killed ten sheeps belonging to the trio. The effected families have appealed authorities to compensate them against the loss and said this is their sole income.
They also said fear has gripped among the residents and have appealed Wildlife department to catch the bear at the earliest. However, a wild life officer also confirmed the killing of ten sheep in the bear attack and said due recently snowfall the wild animals have started moving towards residential areas in search of food, he however appealed People living near forest areas to keep vigilant while moving outside their homes. The officer further said that a team of wild life officials will be sent to area to catch the bear.
