Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday expressed solidarity with the protesting farmers in New Delhi asking the central government to take sincere and immediate steps to allay their fears.
In a statement, Party’s trade union wing organizer Ghulam Nabi Wani Tailbali expressed distress over the excessive use of force on protesting farmers, saying the treatment being meted out to farmers is condemnable. It is in the best interests of the BJP government if a special session of the parliament is convened on the issue. “The confrontation with the farmers is uncalled for and unacceptable in a country like that of ours which is a rural agrarian country. The plight of farmers in Jammu and Kashmir is far worse than their counterparts elsewhere in the country. The government has left the farmers and horticulturalists of J&k high and dry despite being at the receiving end since August last year due to successive clampdown, lock down and the vagaries of weather. I on behalf of my party leadership express unison with the protesting farmers and impress upon the government to shun the path of confrontation. People who toil to feed the country ought to respect and not be made to hanker for their due rights. Contrarily if it requires the government to walk an extra mile, it should,” he said.
