Bandipora, Dec 06: Residents of this north Kashmir’s village believe that good road leads to development but the daily commuters are facing with massive ordeal as main road to Bandipora pass through potholes and the department concerned is giving deaf ear to their pleas.
The residents of Papchan, Nusoo, Herpora, Bandipora are up in arms against the Roads and Buildings department for failing to repair the Papchan-Bandipora road subjecting the residents of a dozen villages to extreme hardships due to the dilapidated condition of the road.
The locals said that the 02-kilometer stretch of road from Papchan Check post to Nusoo Bus stand is in shambles and dotted with potholes giving trouble to the travelers. The road also leads to main market and district headquarter.
Locals said that heavy machinery that plied on this road during the construction of power project damaged the road but neither the authorities nor the NHPC authorities bothered to repair the road thus troubling the locals. They said the distance that can be covered in five minutes is covered in more than half an hour owing to potholes all over the road.
Shameem Ahmad a resident of Papchan said that they are suffering due to the indifferent attitude of the Roads and buildings department towards the area and they are least bothered about their health and hygiene as bumpy roads have become hazardous for them.
Shahid Khan a local bussinessman of Nusoo area of Bandipora said the condition of the road from Papchan to Bandipora is in deplorable condition and it is painful for us especially patients.
“The road was macadamised before a decade and now it has patholes, ditches which irks computer’s including transporters to run on it, nobody is paying any attention towards it and the road is in shambles,” the locals said.
Locals urged authorities to look into the matter and start patch work on the road at an earliest.
Residents urge the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to look into the matter.
