Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued on Saturday police said “officers at a checkpoint established at Sheikh Hamza Crossing near JK Bank signalled two suspicious persons to stop but they tried to escape from the spot and were tactfully nabbed by the officers at the checkpoint”. Saying that the those detained have been identified as Mehran-ud-Din Sheikh and Najamul Huda both residents of Sheikh Hamza Colony Zakura, the police said “during checking, officers were able to recover 1.4Kgs of Charas concealed in maize peels from their possession and were arrested and shifted to PS Zakoora where they remain in custody”.
Police in it’s statement further said “ a case FIR No. 105/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Zakoora and investigation has been taken up” adding that “ people have been appealed to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood”. Police in it’s statement also said “people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law as the decision to deal robustly with drug peddlers has been already taken”.
