KVK Samba hosts 3rd Scientific Advisory Committee meeting

Jammu: The 3rd Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of KVK, Samba was organized Saturday under the chairmanship of Dr. J. P. Shama, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu in the presence of Dr. Rajbir Singh, representative of ICAR, ATARI, Dr. S. K. Gupta, Director Extension, Dr. Sabhajeet Singh, Scientist and IIIM representative of Regional Institute.

The meeting was organized to deliberate upon the progress report of 2019-20 and finalize the action plan for 2020-21. In the meeting, officers of the line departments shared their valuable information. The meeting was attended by the district heads of line departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Divisional Forest Officer, Information Officer, Social Welfare Officer, Fisheries, Small Scale Industry, Irrigation Officer, Lead Bank Manager, District Development Manager, Soil Conservation Officer, Farmers, and Farm Women.

Dr. J. P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor in his presidential address suggested KVK to focus on Integrated Farming System, Value addition of Fruits and Vegetables, Promotion of Protected Cultivation.

His discussion mainly focuses on increasing the farmer income manifold through establishing marketing linkages and branding of agriculture and animal products. He emphasized the cluster development approach. He advocated the strong linkages between KVK and all the development departments for the benefit of the farming community. Dr. Rajbir Singh, ZPD, Zone 1, Ludhiana, represented their remarks for the work done by the KVK, Samba, and assured that ATARI, Ludhiana will render all possible help for solving the problem of farmers. Looking into the Samba condition, his main focus was on Conservation Agriculture.

Initially, the meeting was initiated with the welcome address of Dr. S.K. Gupta. He also deliberated on various issues and urged upon KVK to work with dedication and Enthusiasm with the farmers for doubling the income of farmers. Dr. Vinod Gupta, Senior Scientist, and Head, KVK, Samba presented the detailed Annual Progress Report of KVK, Samba for the year 2019-20 and 2020-21 and action taken report towards the suggestion receive during the second SAC meeting. During the deliberation, Dr. Vinod Gupta appraises the August House about the Salient Research and Extension achievement of KVK, Samba. Therefore, the action plan for the fiscal year 2020-21 was presented before the house for discussion and approval. The progressive farmers and farm women also participated in the program.

The program was organized by the active participation of Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Dr. Neerja Sharma, Dr. Abhay Sinha, Dr. Saurav Gupta, Dr. Suraj Amrutkar, Dr. Amit Mahajan, and Dr. Shalini Khajuria. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria for the valuable suggestion of the August house.
