JKCCA condoles the demise of Sajood Sailani

Jammu : Jammu & Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts, (JKCCA), Jammu held an online condolence meeting to condole the death of playwright, poet and theatre activist Sajood Sailani. The members of Executive Committee like Pt. Kewal K Sharma, President, D P Abrol, Vice- President, O P Sharma, Director, Anita Sharma, Tresurer, Sahil Bhardwaj, General Secretary, Amit Magotra, Member, Ravi Kumar, Member, Dr. Alamdar, Consultant and Jang S. Verman, Advisor to JKCCA and others attended the meeting online. They expressed their their views on the contribution of Sajood Sailani. Rich tributes were paid to him and wished the Amighty to grant peace to the departed soul.
Born in 1936 in the Dalgate area of Srinagar, Sh. Sajood Sailani started writing while studying in class X. He started his writing career with the writing of short skits for All India Radio, Srinagar. He was recipient of many awards like J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (JKAACL) Best Book Awaed, 1970 for his Poetry Collection ‘Shehjaar’; Best Play Awards for stage plays ‘Shuhul Naar’, 1980, ‘Raat- E- Kareel’, 1990 and ‘Paar Sung’, 1998; Sahitya Akademi Award, 1994, for his collection of three plays, titled ‘Kaij Raath’ and ‘Writer in Residency’ Award, 2008; Akashwani Best Radio Play Award, 1990 for Humorous play ‘Kana Pakiir’; Kashmir Theatre Fedration Best Decor Award, 1975 and 1976 for Stage Plays ‘Ropye Roodh’ and ‘Kaij Raath’ respectively, and State Cultural Academy Felicitation, 2008. He had the honour to be the Member Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; Member Advisory Board, J&K State Cultural Academy; President, Sangam Theatre, Srinagar; PRO Kashmir Theatre Fedration; Vice- President, Kashmir Cultural Organization and General Secretary, Hussani Cultural Trust.
