Srinagar/Nov,21:Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JK CSF) has demanded immediate breakthrough release/ shifting of Kashmiri detainees who have been languishing in different jails and detention centres outside J&K which it said has resulted in multidimensional and complex problems to these detainees. JK CSF said that families of the detainees are deeply concerned about their health issues and uncertain future of their cases.
In a statement issued here on Saturday JK CSF Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani said that thousands of Kashmiris including political, non political and religious leaders have been languishing in jails for years now and nobody talks about their plight and future. Saying that the families of the detainees are their families are in distress going from pillar to post for want of justice but of no use, the JK CSF Chief said “there has been no substantial outcome of their struggle so for” .
Wani also said voices that were previously raising alarms over the plight of these detainees too have been muzzled and now hardly we see and hear any one raising voice for these sufferers that too in a much claimed democratic set up.
“Elderly leaders of all shades and young boys have no access to basic amenities in jails and their health is deteriorating continuously which is a matter of grim concern”, Wani said, adding that “some detainees who are aged and senior citizens are fighting chronic ailments”
He said while family members of some detainees suffer from diseases like cancer and have nobody to care for, the JK CSF Chairman said “even in the times of pandemic COVID 19 these detainees and their families were given no relaxation even on humanitarian grounds and they suffer on many fronts” .
Wani said that some leaders under house detentions for a long time face multiple problems and should be released at an earliest..
JK CSF Chairman demanded a fair trial in all cases for granting justice to these detainees and said tha detention without trial of the detainees is challengeable under law and such detainees as such should be released without any further delay. Demanding the shifting of elderly detainees to Srinagar to ensure that their families can meet them in the local environment suitable to their health, Wani said.
JK CSF vehemently demands that those detainees against whom there are no cases should be released immediately and those who have cases against them should be given fair trial, adding that patients and old aged detainees should be shifted to Srinagar. He also demanded release of political detainees.
