42 Candidates withdraw nominations for phase-I in Baramulla

Baramulla: According to District Election Officer (DEO) Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo, 42 candidates have withdrawn their nominations for the phase Ist of District Development Council (DDC), Panchayat by-elections in the district.
Those who withdrew their nominations include 01 candidate for DDC, 05 candidates for Sarpanch and 36 candidates for Panch seats.
Thus, a total of 229 candidates are in fray for the Phase-I of DDC, Panchayat by-elections and these include 20 for District Development Council (DDC), 41 for Sarpanch and 168 for Panch, for which the polling shall be conducted on 28th of November.
Accordingly, a total of 21 nominations were received from 02 DDC constituencies out of which 01 candidate withdrew his nomination thereby leaving a total of 20 candidates in fray. Similarly for 22 vacant Sarpanch seats, a total of 53 nominations were received out of which 05 candidates withdrew their nominations and 07 candidates have been declared as elected unopposed thereby leaving 41 candidates in fray.
For 370 vacancies of Panch seats in Phase-I, a total of 395 nominations were received out of which 04 nominations were rejected on scrutiny and 36 candidates withdrew their nominations. Also 187 panch candidates have been declared as elected unopposed thereby leaving 168 candidates in fray.
The DEO further informed that all the necessary arrangements have been made in advance to ensure free, fair and smooth elections.
