While the emotive politics is the new norm for BJP commanded and controlled by Prime Narendra Modi, the J&K Apni Party Chief Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has said that “era of emotive politics is over”. While Prime Minister Modi’s electoral politics revolves only around the emotive politics but not economy and development and his success in blowing up emotive politics out of proportions is guided only by his art of possibilities, the J&K Apni Party Chief preaches politics of economy and development with truthfulness. If Altaf Bukhari preaches the politics of truthfulness, the BJP controlled and commanded by Prime Minister Modi practices politics of backtracks and betrayals and more so when it comes to relations with it’s own allies. BJP under Prime Minister Modi promised six year full term to the erstwhile Mehbooba Mufti led PDP-BJP coalition government of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state in which Bukhari himself was a senior minister but the withdrawal of support to Mehbooba Government all of a sudden in July 2018 proved it beyond doubt that BJP’s political benchmarks are backtracks and betrayals. Even after the fall of Mehbooba Government the treatment given to Sajad Lone and his People’s Conference by BJP is yet another glaring example of BJP’s politics of betrayals and backtracks. Can Mr Bukhari explain that what has prompted the BJP’s only trusted ally Sajad Lone to part ways with the saffron party and become a part of Farooq Abdullah led Peoples’ Alliance For Gupkar Declaration (PAGD)- an alliance of six parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
A party playing itself emotive politics for electoral mileages and creating animosities among it’s own allies can’t be the saviour of those regional parties preaching politics of truthfulness Never forget truthfulness generates hope but politics of betrayals and backtracks generates only hopelessness and trust deficit and more so when it comes to mainstream politics in Jammu & Kashmir. When the party ruling at the centre propagates emotive politics, it consequently provokes both it’s own allies and rivals to pursue emotive politics which is at it’s best no where else but only in this country- the biggest democracy of the world.
Bukhari was himself promised 25 year qualifying period for the domiciles in J&K, full protection to J&K residents in new land laws, full consideration of the concerns of J&K residents in delimitation initiative and restoration of statehood, but has the incumbent central government kept even a single promise it made to Bukhari since August 5 last year. So question can be asked how comes the people of Jammu & Kashmir would believe in the politics of truthfulness propagated by Altaf Bukhari and his J&K Apni Party when not only but two regional mainstream parties PDP and Peoples’ Conference have been hurt and humiliated by BJP since the fall of erstwhile Mehbooba led PDP-BJP coalition government of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state. Pushing it’s major ally Nitesh Kumar’s Janta Dal (United) into confrontation with another ally Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) during the recently held Bihar assembly elections only to bring down it’s position from a major ally to a supporting partner is the new norm of BJP’s policy of political betrayals and backtracks. Truthfulness does not come from politics of betrayals and backtracks but politics of reconciliations, adjustments and accommodations. BJP’s new political norm in Bihar bringing the political integrity of the likes of Chirag Paswan and Assad Ud Din Owaisi into disrepute is a learning lesson for Altaf Bukari and his likes.
