Srinagar: Police in Srinagar have arrested a bootlegger and recovered 15 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession.
In a statement issued on Thursday the police said that officers at a checkpoint established near Zero Bridge Foreshore Road intercepted one auto bearing registration No JK01AC-9479 driven by Younis Ahmad Bhat resident of Sheikh Mohalla Habbak Srinagar. Stating that during search, officers were able to recover 15 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession, the police in it’s statement said “the accused was arrested and shifted to Police Station Nigeen where he is in custody”, adding that “vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized”.
A case FIR No. 176/2020 under relevant sections of law, according to the statement, has been registered in Police Station Nigeen and further investigation is in progress.
Locals have lauded the efforts of Police and appealed to continue such drives in future as well. Police has resolved to act tough against inimical elements.
Police in it’s statement has also appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police has reiterated that actions against drug peddlers are part of the efforts made to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
