Police arrests 2 drug peddlers in Kulgam & Awantipora, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar: Police in Kulgam and Awantipora have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
A police statement issued here on Thursday said that in Kulgam, during the intervening night of 11th and 12th November officers while patrolling at Nagbal Frisal spotted a suspicious person carrying a bag and signalled him to spot. Stating that though he tried to escape from the spot but patrolling party nabbed him, Police in it’s statement indentified him as as Nafees Ahmad Dar resident of Brazloo along with a bag. The statement also said “during checking, officers were able to recover 10 Kg Poppy Straw concealed in the bag”, adding that “he has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Yaripora where he remains in custody”.
Similarly, in Awantipora, officers at a checkpoint established at village Kawani,according to the statement, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03-2890 driven by Ajaz Ahmad Manto resident of Waghama Bijbehara. “During checking, 12 Kilograms of Poppy straw concealed in a gunny bag was recovered”, the statement reads, adding that “he has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”.
“Cases vide FIR numbers 143/2020 and 163/2020 under relevant sections of law have been registered in PS Yaripora and PS Awantipora respectively and investigation has been initiated”, said the statement.
Police in it’s statement has also appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police has reiterated that actions against drug peddlers are part of the efforts made to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
