Srinagar: Taking first hand stock of damages caused by the unfortunate mid-night fire incident in Nawabazar area of Old City srinagar, Jammu Kashmir Awami Itehad Party leader and Spokesperson Sheeban Ashai visited the mosque. He urged the authorities to provide all needed support and assistance in bringing back the historic mosque to its pristine glory. Ashai also gladly spoke about the reverence of such historic places in the hearts of every Kashmiri and the importance of preventing and preserving such jewels of the Valley. Pathar Masjid a Mughal era stone mosque located in the Nawabazar area of the old city of Srinagar was built by Mughal Empress Noor Jehan, the wife of emperor Jehangir. It is located on the left bank of the River Jhelum just opposite the shrine of Khanqah-e-Moula. The mid-night fire has left pulpit of the masjid damaged but since the mosque is built of majorly stone, the fire did not cause any more damages. Awami Itehad Party leader urged the authorities to expeditiously provide required financial assistance for carrying out necessary repairs to bring back the mosque to its previous glory. He also lauded the efforts of Fire Department and locals in dousing the flames. Ashai expressed his heartfelt concern over the welfare of mosques and shrines across Jammu and Kashmir and termed preserving the cultural heritage and religious places as prime responsibility of every Kashmiri. He emphasized how the neighborhoods of Shehr-E-Khas have immense contributions in the Socio-political, religious legacy of Kashmir. He also appealed the District administration to scrupulously look into the issue of short circuiting and ensure fire safety mechanisms are properly put in place especially in places of historic significance across Kashmir. Party top brass also extended condolences to the family of Senior Party functionary Aijaz Lone on the demise of his mother in law. Party leadership expressed profound sympathies with the bereaved.
