Srinagar: In a major surprise to the hapless hundreds of aspirants of Jammu & Kashmir for the B.A, LL.B Course at the Central University of Kashmir the counseling shortlist released by the University shows only six aspirants qualifying from Jammu & Kashmir and 28 candidates from Bihar. Interestingly Bihar presently going to assembly polls has witnessed unprecedented provocations from the poll campaigners of the main political alliances over land and job rights to non J&K residents in Jammu & Kashmir after the abrogation of article 370 to erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state.
According to the short released by the Central University Kashmir in a shortlist of 54 candidates only six candidates of Jammu & Kashmir have been shown qualifying for the counseling for B.A; LL.B Course but 28 qualifiers are from Bihar and 20 from other states with 4 from Kerala, 4 from Rajasthan, 3 from UP,2 each from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand and one each from Telangana and Union Territory of Delhi. In this open merit category 16 qualifiers belong to OBC category,5 to SC category and 9 to Economically Weaker Section (EWS). In another exclusive list of OBC category out of nine qualifiers six of them belong to Bihar.
When asked to cite reasons for the record time low of only six J&K candidates qualifying in a list of 54 qualifiers and record time high of 28 candidates of Bihar making it to counseling for admissions to B. A; LL.B Course, the Vice Chancellor Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Prof Meraj Ud Din told Kashmir Horizon over phone “obviously the less no of candidates from Jammu & Kashmir participating in the entrance test conducted country wide by Rajasthan Central University as national coordinator for the entrance tests and poor performance by them in the tests could be two reasons for the less no of qualifiers for counseling to B.A; LL.B Course from Jammu & Kashmir”.
He also said “ however it is premature to say anything about the lesser no of candidates qualifying for admissions from Jammu & Kashmir as the final outcome is subject to the appearance of all the non J&K qualifiers in the counseling for the B.A, LL.B Course”. He also said that subject to the availability of vacancies the University holds a local tests if all the seats are not filled up at the end of the counseling.
