VC SKUAST-Jammu flags off seed on wheels

Jammu: Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof J.P Sharma Wednesday visited various farms of the university at Chatha and took stock of various development activities.
He was accompanied by Director Extension, Dr. S. K. Gupta; Director Planning and Monitoring, Dr. Deepak Kher; Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. J.P. Sharma; Head, Division of Agronomy and coordinator, Technology Park, Chatha, Dr. B.C Sharma; Head, Division of Entomology, Dr. Hafeez Ahmad; Nodal Officer Seed, Dr. Amrish Vaid; Coordinator, SBT Dr. R. K. Salgotra, and Head, Division of Soil Science and Organic Farming Research Centre (OFRC) Dr. Vikas Sharma.
During his visit to Mega Seed Processing unit, he flagged off vehicle with 70 quintals breeder seed of latest wheat varieties viz HPW-349, HD-3226, DBW-173, HD-3237, HD-3271, WH-1105 and WH-1080 being supplied to the Department of Agriculture, Jammu as per their indent for its multiplication into foundation/ certified categories of seeds and its further distribution to the farmers of Jammu region with the objective to achieve the targeted seed replacement rate (SRR).
Prof. Sharma suggested to focus on Participatory Seed Production Mode involving farmers’ and multi-disciplinary team of scientists of SKUAST-Jammu along with KVK’s.
He urged that the wasteland should be brought under the cultivation of crops by doing necessary levelling of land. During his visit to Organic Farming Research Centre (OFRC), Prof Sharma advised scientists to formulate a long term plan for development of Organic farming. Dr. N.P. Thakur, Chief Scientist & Head, Farming System Research Centre explained various activities of Integrated Farming System to the Vice Chancellor. Prof. Sharma also visited Mushroom Production Unit, Fish Ponds, Sericulture, Poly House of Fruit Science, Experimental Plots of Agronomy and Plant Breeding & Genetics expressed his satisfaction over the performance of all the farm activities.
Prof. Sharma advised scientists that economic analysis of various cropping systems of the farm should be calculated and disseminated among the farmers for their knowledge and benefit. Prof. Sharma also visited vegetable nursery and field trials of entomology and Agricultural Engineering.
During the visit Dr. M.C. Dwivedi; Dr. Magadeshwar Sharma; Dr. Anjani Kumar Singh; Dr. Satesh Sharma; Dr. S.K. Singh; Dr. Narinder Panotra; Dr. Vishal Raina; Dr. Sehar Masood; Dr. Akhil Gupta; Dr. Kamlesh Bali; Dr. Satish Sharma; Dr. Balbir Dhotra; Dr. J.S. Manhas and Dr. Anil Bhat were also present.
