Srinagar: Police in Srinagar on Saturday arrested a drug peddler and recovered psychotropic substances from his possession.
In a statement issued on Saturday police said “Officers at a checkpoint established at SMHS Hospital premises near OPD after receiving information about drug peddling, intercepted one vehicle Grand I-10 bearing registration number JK01AL-0017 with one person on board”, adding that “He has been identified as Mohammad Azhar Bhat resident of Nundreshi Colony A Bemina Srinagar.
During checking, officers, according to the statement, were able to recover Spaspromoxan 417 capsules, Blurex Codeine phosphate 25 bottles and Omerex 12 bottles from his possession. “He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Karan Nagar where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”, the statement reads.
A case FIR No. 60/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Karan Nagar and investigation has been initiated, said the statement.
Police while asking people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
The police also said that it’s actions against drug peddlers should reassure the society that efforts are on to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
