Jammu: To spare money for meeting medical care expenses for the family or for the education of his children was the last thing to imagine for construction worker Bhoop Chand till he had not registered himself with the Labour and Employment Department.
Bhoop Chand of village Brevi of Kalakote block(Rajouri) is one of the thousands of beneficiaries of the labour welfare schemes. He has secured Rs 15000 each as scholarship for his two children; received Rs 95000 for the treatment of his chronic ailment and was provided 4 installments of Rs 1000 each as a hand-holding during recent Covid 19 Lockdown.
Implemented by the Labour and Employment Department, the labour welfare schemes are tailored to address multi-dimensional socio-economic aspects concerning Labor Welfare. Each scheme is meant for improving the living standard of workers, their condition of employment and provision for social security.
Narrating his tryst with the happiest day in his life, he said ‘one right step of registering with the department has unchained me of all worries.”
Having come to attend Back to Village 3, Bhoop Chand while thanking the government said, these schemes offer a sanctuary of hope for the people like him.
As per the department, it has disbursed an amount of Rs 2.82 crore in district Rajouri to the construction workers under different welfare schemes viz Scholarship to the Children from class 1 up to Post graduation including professional Degree Courses, Medical Assistance for major Ailments and Covid 19 Assistance in 4 installments of Rs 1000 Each.
