Srinagar: Five Jammu artists are among 127 artists who displayed their art in an Online International Art Exhibition titled ‘Open Hand Art Exhibition: Dedicating Art to the Masters’ organized by ArtFort India, Chandigarh in collaboration with Verman Cultural Celebrations, Jammu and supported by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, Smd Foundation, Guwahati, World Art Community, Chandigarh and International Island Country Artists, Turkey. The exhibition was inaugurated Tuesday at Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi Office by the Prof. Bheem Malhotra, Chairman CLKA in the presence of prominent artists of Chandigarh. The exhibition has been organized to commemorate the 133rd birth anniversary of Le Corbusier (6th October, 1887– 27th August, 1965), the master planner of Chandigarh, the modern city of the country & a painter, and Architect R S Lall (5th November, 1929– 4th August, 2014), modern architectural planner & one who got an opportunity to work with and assist Le Corbusier in the preparation of architectural working drawings of the Museum of Knowledge.
One hundred and twenty seven artists from thirteen countries, including five artists from the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir viz. Dr. Milan Sharma, Jasleen Singh, Mehak Sharma, Shivali Jamwal and Jang S. Verman, are participating in the exhibition. Prominent artists among the other artists are Gunilla Lofgren, Elisabeth Noren and Anita Elgret (Sweden), Anna Krzeminska (Poland), Dr. Clemens Baungkun (S Korea), Chaidi Adib Salama (Egypt), Husna Disbudak, Ugur Ozen, Koziban Yildrin, Culay Erogli and Emme Keskin Aydin (Turkey), Thu Suong Vo and Dang Thi Duong (Vietnam), Suzlee Ibrahim (Malaysia), Shpresa Tolaj Gjonbalaj (kosovo), Dr. Arif Albayrak (Cyprus), Abdullah Gjongeeaj (Germany), Agueda Rubio Munoz (Spain), Larisa Zuykova (Russia), Jai Zharotia, Prof. Prem Singh, Kashmiri Khosa, Dr. S S Bhatti, Shyam Sharma, Prabhinder Lall, Satwant Singh, Sankari Mitra and others from India.
According to Dr. S S Bhatti, a well known Art Critic and Former Principal of Chandigarh College of Architecture, ‘Open Hand’ Art Exhibition: Dedicating Art to the Masters’ to celebrate the 133rd birth anniversary of Le Corbusier is a remarkable initiative by ArtFort India, Chandigarh and Verman Cultural Celebrations, Jammu, supported by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi (CLKA)…. It’s perhaps for the first in India that a commemorative art event dedicated to Le Corbusier comes from the artists. It highlights the little- known fact that Le Corbusier was in the initial stages of his career was recognised as a world- class painter.’ It may be mentioned here that Architect R S Lall was an important member of the Indian team of architects who were apprenticed to the Master Architect under whose stewardship Chandigarh Capital Project was taking shape.
Prabhinder Lall, a well known artist who looks after the affairs of ArtFort India, Chandigarh has been very actively working for the cause & promotion of Art & Culture for last many years. The organiaztion independently as well as in collaboration with other organizations, has organized many All India and International Art Camps/ Workshops and art exhibitions at different places in India and abroad. Holding ‘Open Hand: Dedicatng Art to the Masters’- an Online International Art Exhibition will run for a month.
